Kenya trounces host Uganda 48-10 in Elgon Cup

Xinhua, June 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Visiting Kenyan national team whitewashed host Uganda 48-10 in the first leg of the regional Elgon Rugby Cup here on Saturday.

The Kenya team started on a high and scored three tries from Darwin Mukidza and one each by David Ambunya, Vincent Mose, Nato Simiyu and Mike Okombe.

Uganda only managed a try by Byron Oketayot and Kevin Makmot, but Kenya still led 29-10 at the interval.

"We failed to play our game right from the start. But we shall go back to the drawing board and plan for the second leg to take place next month," said Uganda's coach Robert Seguya.

"We have been in good form today and this victory is very sweet because Uganda are the Elgon Cup defending champions," said Man of the Match Mukidza.

The Kenyan team will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for a friendly with Brazil on June 18 before embarking on a back-to-back Africa Cup Division 1A campaign against Zimbabwe and Namibia in July in Harare and Windhoek, respectively.

Meanwhile the Ugandan team will travel to South Africa for 10 days of training camp starting from June 10 to prepare for the African Division 1A Championship, where Uganda will face Namibia on July 12. Endit
