BiH authorities seize 42 smuggled vehicles

Xinhua, June 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

The police and taxation authority in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Sunday seized 42 smuggled motor vehicles.

The vehicles were seized at four companies dealing with scrapped cars after days of extensive investigation, local media reported.

The owners of the companies obtained fairly new vehicles from abroad with temporary entry into BiH, removed plates and sold car parts so as to avoid duties, officials said.

The field operation was carried out by members of Indirect Taxation Authority, Regional Center Against Trafficking and police forces. Some suspects were under investigation.

Vehicle smuggling is not uncommon in BiH, with over 1,000 vehicles stolen and smuggled each year in Sarajevo Canton. Most of the vehicles were dissembled with parts sold. Endit
