Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian National Bank seized a total of 1,362 counterfeit banknotes from January to March 2016, more than double on a quarterly basis, the institution said Friday.

In the first quarter of 2016, the country's banking system watchdog seized 401 counterfeit Bulgarian notes that were in circulation, as well as 687 euro banknotes, 96 U.S. dollar banknotes, and 178 banknotes of other foreign currencies.

However, the number of seized counterfeits was much smaller than that in the third quarter of 2015. During the period that coincides with the high tourist season, the bank seized 223 counterfeit Bulgarian notes, 1,098 euro notes, 378 dollar notes and 858 banknotes of other foreign currencies.
