Turkish presidents in Somalia to improve ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Somalia on Friday with a big business delegation expected to scout for investment opportunities in the Horn of Africa nation.

Top Somali government officials welcomed Erdogan and his delegation where he proceeded to open an embassy in Mogadishu.

"President Erdogan later opened the new embassy in which Turkey built in Mogadishu, it is the biggest embassy Turkey has in East Africa," Presidential spokesman Daud Aweys told journalists.

Erdogan is expected to also open pediatric hospital Mogadishu which was established by his government in Mogadishu.

Security was tightened in Mogadishu and its environs ahead and during the visit by the Turkish leader. Several infrastructural projects are being undertaken by Turkish companies.

Erdogan's government has promised to build 10,000 homes in Somalia during his second trip in 2015. However, this has not been achieved. Endit
