Slovakia sees big cooperation potential with Georgia: Slovak president

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

There is a great business potential in Georgia for Slovak companies, said Slovak President Andrej Kiska after returning from a state visit to Georgia on Thursday.

"Bilateral turnover between the two countries, which is 30 million euros (33.48 million U.S. dollars) per year, is too small. There is huge potential in tourism," said Kiska.

Georgian-Slovak business relations will be deepened due to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) and the Georgian National Investment Agency (GNIA) during the visit.

"There's already one firm focused on the sphere of security equipment, but we've prepared other opportunities in the areas of the construction of small electric plants and information and communications technologies," said SARIO foreign trade director Tibor Bucek, adding that there's incentive for Georgian automotive companies to work in Slovakia as sub-suppliers.

Talks on Georgia joining the European Union were also on the agenda. Georgia has already inked an association agreement with the EU and Slovakia's presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of this year could be a good opportunity for Georgia in its integration process, both leaders agreed.
