Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam will attend the United Nations (UN) General Assembly high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS in New York in June, a Vietnamese official announced here on Thursday.

The event is expected to take place at the UN Headquarters in New York on June 8-10, 2016, said Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of the Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a regular press briefing held in capital Hanoi.

According to Binh, Vietnam's participation at the meeting shows its strong commitment with other countries to end HIV/AIDS by 2030, making contribution to the UN discussions on seeking measures of preventing and combating HIV/AIDS.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese official will deliver a speech at the meeting as well as hold bilateral talks with other world leaders, said Binh.

From June 8 to 10, world leaders, government representatives, HIV program implementers and civil society organizations from across the world will gather at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to chart the way forward to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.
