Palestinian woman killed after attempting to stab soldier: Israeli army

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israel's military said troops shot dead a Palestinian woman after she allegedly tried to stab a soldier at a West bank checkpoint on Thursday.

A military spokesperson said in a statement that the suspect, armed with a knife, approached a soldier at a military post near Einav, a Jewish settlement east of the Palestinian town of Tulkarm. She then attempted to stab the soldier, said the spokesperson. Forces opened fire, killing the woman, whose identity was not immediately disclosed.

The incident was the latest in a nine-month-long Palestinian uprising, including stabbing, car-ramming, and shooting attack.

At least 28 Israel, two U.S. citizens, and an Eritrean refugee have been killed in that period. At the same time, at least 203 Palestinian have been killed, most said by Israel to have been killed amidst attacks or clashes with Israeli forces.

The attacks have been less frequent over the recent weeks but haven't entirely stopped. Endit
