Over 6 mln children suffering from chronic malnutrition in DR Congo

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Over six million children aged below five years are suffering from chronic malnutrition in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), UNICEF said in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement said several provinces in DR Congo, especially those in the east, are suffering from chronic malnutrition.

UNICEF noted that DR Congo is among countries with the highest number of children suffering from malnutrition.

"This situation is considered as an emergency that requires particular attention from all actors in DR Congo," the statement continued.

"Even though today there is a national multisectorial nutrition policy in DR Congo, the government should invest four times more in nutrition. As for donors, they should double their contribution to the sector," UNICEF insisted. Endit
