Vladivostok mayor detained in abuse of power probe

Xinhua, June 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

The mayor of Russia' s far eastern city of Vladivostok was sent to Moscow on Thursday in an investigation on his alleged abuse of power, Tass news agency reported.

He was detained on Wednesday before the transfer.

According to Russia's Investigative Committee, Pushkarev personally gained 45 million rubles (675,000 U.S. dollars) from a deal involving the purchase of road-building materials at higher prices from a municipal company run by a close relative.

The mayor's involvement led to an increase of more than 800 million rubles (12 million U.S. dollars) to the public debt, the report said. Endi
