The following are highlights of leading Nigerian media outlets on Thursday.

-- After decades of widespread pollution, President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday begin the remediation of the Ogoni environment in line with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) recommendations.

UNEP which conducted an independent scientific investigation on Ogoni had noted that the environmental restoration of Ogoni land could prove to be the world's most wide-ranging and long-term oil clean-up ever undertaken, if contaminated drinking water, land, creeks and important ecosystems such as mangroves are to be brought back to full, productive health. -- The Niger Delta Avengers early Wednesday blew up two oil wells located in Warri, southwest of Delta State belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited.

The militant group claimed responsibility for the attack on RMP 23 and RMP 24 which it said were Chevron's swamp highest producing wells. (Daily Trust)

-- Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday said that the decline in economic activities in the first quarter of the year persisted in May. The CBN disclosed this in its Purchasing Managers Index report for May.

The report revealed that, "Out of 16 sub-sectors in the manufacturing sector, eleven sub-sectors recorded decline in the review month while five sectors recorded expansion. Out of eighteen non-manufacturing sub-sectors, fourteen sub-sectors recorded decline, while four subsectors recorded expansion". (Vanguard) Endit
