Burkina Faso suspects jihadists carried out deadly police station attack

Burkina Faso's Security and Interior Minister Simon Compaore has blamed jihadists for an attack that killed three police officers on Tuesday night in an area close to the border with Mali.
"As they used to do it close to the border over there, in any case, it must be the jihadists," Compaore told reports on Wednesday.
He however added "this has to be proved", as "we do not have clear items relating to the assailants."
Security sources said the assailants came by motorbikes and attacked a police station late in the evening in Intangom in the Sahel region, killing the three officers.
The sources said the assailants managed to escape and took away weapons.
Burkina Faso has seen a wave of terror attacks, mostly in the northern region, in the past year.
In mid-May, two security officers were injured as unknown gunmen attacked a police position in Koutougou, close to the borders with Niger and Mali.
In mid-January, an attack by jihadists on a luxury hotel in the capital Ouagadougou claimed 30 lives.
In October last year, three police officers were killed when a group of armed men attacked a police position in Samorogouan, close to the border with Mali. Endit
