Water supply in Morocco covers all urban areas: minister

Xinhua, June 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

The coverage rate of water supply in Morocco reached 100 percent in urban areas and 95 percent in rural areas in 2015, Charafat Afailal, Moroccan minister in charge of water, said here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the parliament, she said the government paid considerable efforts to tackle the challenge of generalizing access to water, especially in rural areas, adding that the coverage rate of water supply increased from 43 percent in 2000 to 95 percent last year.

Morocco has allocated more than four billion U.S. dollars to promote access to drinking water in rural and urban areas between 2001 and 2015, the minister said.

She said the National Electricity and Drinking Water Office has taken several measures to rationalize the use of water and strengthen supply through the implementation of several projects in this field. Endit
