Israeli Arab sentenced to 25 years for car-ramming, stabbing attack

Xinhua, June 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Israeli Arab citizen of Israel was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison for carrying out a combined car-ramming and stabbing attack in 2015.

The Haifa District Court convicted Alaa Raed Ahmad Ziwad, 21, from the town of Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel, of "terror attack" against Jewish soldiers and civilians.

On October 11, Ziwad drove his car over two soldiers (a woman and a man) who were standing at a bus stop in Gan Shmuel junction, north of Tel Aviv, wounding them both.

He then stepped out of the car and started stabbing civilians, including a 14-year-old girl and a civilian who tried to stop him.

Other civilians rushed to the place and captured him, holding him down until the police arrived and arrested him.

Ziwad admitted four attempted murders and was asked to pay compensation to each of the four victims, in a total amount of 340,000 shekels (about 88,360 U.S. dollars.)

Since the violent uprising broke out mid-September, 28 Israelis and at least 203 Palestinians have been killed. Endit
