Xinhua, May 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Japan's housing starts in April increased for the fourth consecutive month, industry data showed Tuesday, yet worries over the economic outlook still prevail.

The country's housing starts in April rose 9 percent from the same period of the previous year to 82,398 units, according to data released by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Housing starts in all three sectors of rental housing, condominiums and owner-occupied houses gained growth in April.

Rental housing starts posted the highest growth rate of 16 percent to 35,504 units, up for the sixth month in a row.

Ranking the second, starts on condominiums and detached homes built for sale went up 9 percent to 23,029 units.

Lastly, starts on owner-occupied houses rose slightly by 1.2 percent to 23,567 units.

"Although the latest data underlined the continued recovery trend, some builders have expressed worries over the economic outlook," said a land ministry official quoted by local media. Endit
