Deportivo sack coach Sanchez

Xinhua, May 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish BBVA Primera Liga club, Deportivo la Coruna announced on Monday that the club has decided to sack first team coach Victor Sanchez after just over a season in charge.

The decision comes less than five months after Sanchez had extended his deal with the club until the end of June 2017.

Sanchez' s new contract came after an excellent first half of the season in which the club battling to qualify for a place in Europe for next season.

However, a disastrous second half to the campaign in which Deportivo managed just 15 points and suffered a humiliating 8-0 defeat at home to FC Barcelona, saw them finish the campaign in 15th place with 42 points and it was not until the penultimate weekend of the competition that they were mathematically safe from relegation.

The last weeks of the season also saw rumors that Sanchez had a poor relationship with several of the club' s players after he punished veteran defender Albert Lopo and striker Luisinho by not allowing them to train with the first team squad. Endit
