All matches cancelled at Roland Garros in first washout for 16 years

Xinhua, May 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Day 9 competitions of the French Open were all canceled due to persistent rain on Monday.

It has been 16 years since a whole day of play washed out at Roland Garros, where the last total washout was May 30, 2000.

Organizers of the clay-court Grand Slam tournament said the matches would be rescheduled for Tuesday, and Monday's ticket holders can apply for refunds but will not be permitted Tuesday entry with tickets dated May 30.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was initially scheduled to play against 14th seed Roberto Bautista Agut in men's singles last 16 on Monday, when defending champion Serena Williams was to face 18th-seeded Elina Svitolina.

Both the matches were postponed to Tuesday with part of singles quarterfinal schedule to follow up. Endit
