Arsenal full back Hector Bellerin will replace Real Madrid' s Dani Carvajal in the Spain squad for the forthcoming European Championships after it was confirmed on Monday that the muscle problem Carvajal suffered in the Champions League final will sideline him for the competition.
Carvajal was forced out of Saturday' s game holding his upper right leg and tests showed he has suffered a tear in his iliopsoas muscle (upper hamstring) which needs three weeks recovery time.
Del Bosque confirmed on Sunday that Bellerin, who made an impressive international debut in Spain' s 3-1 friendly win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday, would remain with the squad if tests showed Carvajal would not be fit in time for the Euros, which kick off on June 10th.
Bellerin earned his call up after an exceptional season with Arsenal saw him named as the best right back of the Premier League last season and Del Bosque had named him in a squad of 11 'promises' as he began preparations for the Euros with just 7 players available from the 23 man-squad he named for the tournament.
Spain will face South Korea on June 1st in a game where Del Bosque will be able to select players from FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Sevilla and Manchester United, who joined the squad on Saturday.
However Del Bosque won' t be able to work with players from either Real or Atletico Madrid as they have been given holidays until June 4th following their appearance in the Champions League final on May 28th. Endit
