Albanian builders call for gov't help with surplus apartments

Xinhua, May 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albania's builders are waiting for government help to dispose of over 10,000 unsold apartments to save the real estate industry, Albanian Daily News reported on Monday.

The apartments, built from 1995 to 2005, no longer meet the needs of a changing market as customers now turn to better quality homes, said Arben Dervishi from the Association of Builders.

The government could buy the unsold apartments, mainly in the suburbs of Tirana, Golem, Vlora, at a lower price and turn them into social homes, Dervishi said.

"I agree that the price should be reduced at a certain amount, but there are equaling costs. So probably the government may enter the property market so that the industry won't be further aggravated," said Dervishi. Endi
