Clash kills 2 police, wounds 2 others in northern Afghan city

Two policemen were killed and two others injured in a fire fight in northern Mazar-e-Sharif city, the capital of Balkh province on Sunday, a local official said.

"Clash claimed the lives of two police and injured two others in the wee hours of today," the official told Xinhua, but he declined to give details, saying authorized officials would talk to the media after completion of investigation.

Meanwhile, director of a civilian hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif city, Noor Mohammad Faiz, in talks with Xinhua confirmed that two police bodies and two injured police personnel were taken to the hospital this morning.

A senior police officer, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, confirmed the incident, but declined to provide details, saying investigation is underway to determine the situation. Enditem
