Wolfsburg sign Cologne' s Yannick Gebhardt

Xinhua, May 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The "Wolves" have signed midfielder Yannick Gebhardt from league rivals Cologne, both sides confirmed in an official statement on Friday.

The 22-year-old midfielder will reinforce Wolfsburg for the upcoming season after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal, which binds him until June 2021. Both team agreed to keep silence over further contract details.

"Yannick Gebhardt is a young player with great potential," Wolfsburg' s sporting director Klaus Allofs said. "He has already proved in Cologne that he has the quality to set the tone in the Bundesliga. We are pleased that we were able sign such a talented player."

Gebhardt played since his youth for the "Billy Goats" where he made his first-team debut in July 2013 to provide six goals and nine assist in overall 74 appearances.

"I am happy to make my next career step at Wolfsburg. The talks with Klaus Allofs and (coach) Dieter Hecking have convinced me," Gebhardt said.

The new arrival played for a number of Germany' s youth teams. He is since 2015 part of Germany' s Under 21 squad where he made six caps ever since.

His new club completed the last Bundesliga season on the 8th place, which will force them to focus on national matters. Endit
