Singapore's Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling will attend the 4th China (Beijing) International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) from Friday to Sunday, announced the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on Friday.
MTI revealed that this is the fourth time that the city state is participating in the CIFTIS, China's national fair for trade in services which inaugurated in 2012. For this year, the authority has appointed the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) to organize Singapore's participation at the international fair.
The services sector plays an increasingly important role in both Singapore's and China's economies. Singapore companies continue to see China as an important destination for export of services, said MTI in the press release.
"As China steps up its development in its services sectors, we look forward to seeing more China and Singapore companies work together with their counterparts across ASEAN to bring progress in the ASEAN-China strategic partnership and shared prosperity in the region." said Ho Meng Kit, CEO of SBF.
Singapore's participation at the 4th CIFTIS mainly includes a Singapore Pavilion and Singapore Day Seminar. MTI said Low will attend the CIFTIS Opening Ceremony and tour the Singapore Pavilion on Saturday. She will also deliver a keynote address at the Singapore Day Seminar on Sunday.
Themed "Singapore -- Modern Services and Connectivity Hub", the pavilion features 28 Singapore companies and six trade association and chambers (TACs) from the professional services, transport, infrastructure, tourism and hospitality, Info-comm Technology and e-commerce sectors.
In addition, three Sino-Singapore joint projects, namely Suzhou Industrial Park, Tianjin Eco-City and the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative, are also presented at the pavilion.
As for the seminar, it will enable participants to better understand Singapore's professional services to reach out to Asia and beyond under the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
According to MTI, bilateral trade in services between Singapore and China reached 20 billion U.S. dollars in 2015. Singapore is also among China's top 10 partners in trade in services. Endit
