French consumers were more confident of the country's economic performance in May than a month earlier as the consumer appreciation index improved by four points to 98, French national statistics bureau Insee said on Friday.

Expectations over personal financial outlook rose four points to minus nine, while outlook over the future economy moved up by nine points to minus 28, clearly above its long term average, according to the report.
As to unemployment rate, less people predicted for an increase of joblessness in the future as the index hit seven-year low to stand at 21 points, down by 28 points from a month before, Insee data showed.
According to the Labor Ministry's figures, the number of people registered as out of work fell by 0.6 percent at the end of April to stand at 3.511 million jobseekers compared to March.
