Xinhua, May 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

India's foreign ministry sought a report from the local government in the southern state of Telangana over an attack on a Nigerian student, officials said Friday.

"On reports of a Nigerian student injured in Hyderabad, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has urgently sought report from state government and is monitoring the case," Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup wrote on twitter.

The Nigerian national was attacked in Hyderabad city, the capital of Telangana on Wednesday.

Local media reports said the 23-year-old Nigerian student Bamilola Kazim was thrashed by locals over a parking dispute. Kazim reportedly suffered some injuries in the attack and was hospitalized and later on discharged.

Last week a Congolese national M T Oliva was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in Indian capital of New Delhi.

A large number of African nationals are staying in Indian cities mostly pursuing their studies.

In February, a Tanzanian student was assaulted and stripped by a mob in the southern city of Bangalore. Endit
