French soldier stabbed in southwest France

Xinhua, May 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

A French soldier in uniform was stabbed overnight in Tarn, southwest France, by two men, local media reported on Friday.

The two men fled the scene and are being sought by police, according to local broadcaster Europe 1.

The solider in his thirties, form 8th Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment, was in training walk 30 km away form his barracks while two men attacked him with a box-cutter who said they acted to avenge military intervention in Syria.

Sentenced several times over events linked with drug affairs, the solider was injured in his thigh but his situation is not critical, the report added.

An inquiry is underway to identify the exact assaults' circumstances or the identity of the attackers and to determine whether the attack is an anti-military act or a settlement of scores, Europe 1 said. Endit
