Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim has appointed Pravind Jugnauth as the country's new finance minister.

Last year, Jugnauth had resigned as the minister for Information and Communication Technologies, after having been charged for corruption.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, he won his appeal against a one-year prison sentence ruling.

The new finance minister took his oath of office on Thursday before the country's president.

"I have been given the ministry of finance and economic development. It is a very important ministry, especially under the current economic context. It is a major challenge to overcome. I will start work immediately," Jugnauth said after being sworn in.

Jugnauth who is a son to the current Mauritius Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth, affirmed that the government's priorities will remain the same; attracting investments and creating jobs. Endit
