Republic of Congo opposition calls for dialogue to end crisis

Xinhua, May 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

The coordinator of Republic of Congo's main opposition coalition, Initiative for Democracy in Congo and Republican Front for Respect of Constitutional Order (FROCAD-IDC) Charles Zacharie Bowao has said the coalition is ready for dialogue to end the current political crisis in the country.

"We shall continue demonstrating our willingness to participate in dialogue and find a compromise. If all parties are concerned about the supreme national interests, we shall find a compromise to the current crisis," Bowao said when he addressed the press in Brazzaville.

"We are very clear, we do not want war in our country, we do not want to shed any blood, we believe people who respect themselves are those who discuss their differences rationally. This is why we are insisting on dialogue to address the current challenges," he said.

FROCAD-IDC coordinator said the conduct of the March 20 presidential elections will feature among other issues on the agenda.

"We have a rock-solid case to prove that the presidential elections were massively rigged by the government and despite the rigging, we are able to prove that we still won," he said.

He proposed that should the current protagonists fail to agree, then there is need for intervention from international facilitators. Endit
