Thailand on Thursday said it supports China's stance of solving bilateral disputes with other countries via negotiation.
The remark was made by president of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand Pornpetch Wichitcholchai in his meeting with China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng in Beijing.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), briefed Pornpetch on China's position on the South China Sea issue.
"China has always attached great importance to the role Thailand has played in ASEAN," Yu told Pornpetch.
"Thailand agrees that bilateral disputes should be solved via negotiation," said Pornpetch, adding that the country hopes to maintain peace and stability in the region.
On China-Thailand relations, Yu spokes highly of the development in recent years.
China is willing to work with Thailand to further promote the synergy of major strategies and projects of each country, including China's Belt and Road initiative and Thailand's strategy of transportation and infrastructure construction, said Yu.
He also called on both countries to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance coordination and cooperation on regional and international issues, step up mutual understanding and mutual support so as to lift bilateral ties to a new level.
Yu said the CPPCC welcomes more Thai parliamentarians to visit China, encouraging them to make more contribution to the development of both countries.
Pornpetch said Thailand is willing to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, adding that the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand hopes to see Thailand-China relations continue to forge ahead. Endi
