Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:
Chinese stocks continued to decline on Wednesday with the trading volume shrinking as investors remained cautious amid the bearish trend.
Despite opening high, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.23 percent to close at 2,815.09 points. The smaller Shenzhen index finished 0.38 percent lower at 9,784.6 points.
The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.4 percent to close at 2,067.25 points.
Turnover on the two bourses stood at 371.3 billion yuan (about 57 billion U.S. dollars), slightly down from the previous trading day.
Analysts believe the lackluster trading will become a major challenge for the market to recover from the current losing streak.
The sectors of ceramic industry, non-ferrous metal and textile machinery suffered the most, while robotics companies rose. Endi
