Namibia to host joint parliamentary assembly to tackle poverty

Xinhua, May 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The upcoming three-day 31st Session of the ACP-European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly scheduled for Namibia's capital Windhoek in June will address poverty eradication and sustainable growth.

From June 13 to 15, the event is expected to be attended by more than 350 parliamentarians from 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries and 28 from the European Union.

Addressing the media Monday in Windhoek, Namibia's Speaker of Parliament Peter Katjavivi said the assembly will focus on the sustainable part of the joint assembly's work towards conservation, trade, poverty eradication and growth.

Katjavivi also said they will discuss democracy, human rights as well as humanity's common values.

The European Union Ambassador to Namibia, Jana Hybaskova, who also attended the briefing said they will further look at issues such as solar energy, education, development, water and food security.

Hybaskova also said the session will offer an opportunity for revisiting the Cotonou Agreement signed in 2000 on poverty eradication and sustainable development. Endit
