At least three people were killed Monday in simultaneous attacks against two Congolese army camps by Nyatura militia in South Kivu province, east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

Those killed included a soldier and two wives of soldiers who were visiting their husbands. Another congolese soldier was injured, an eyewitness said.

During the attacks, the assailants burnt army tents, before fleeing with livestock they had stolen from civilians neighbouring the army camp.

The commander of Sukola II operation in South Kivu, Gen. Esperant Masubi, confirmed that army positions came under surprise attacks from Nyatura militia who came from North Kivu province.

Nyatura militia are very active in the Kivu provinces where they have often launched targeted attacks against army positions.
