Cambodia sets date for commune councilor elections

Cambodia has set June 4, 2017 as the date for the fourth commune councilor elections, according to a decision signed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Tuesday.
"Minister in charge of the Council of Ministers, interior minister, economy and finance minister, all ministers, and heads of all relevant institutions must carry out this decision with high efficiency from the date of signature," he said.
The Southeast Asian country holds commune councilor elections in every five years.
In the last elections in June 2012, the ruling Cambodian People's Party of Samdech Techo Hun Sen swept 1,592 of the country's 1,633 commune chief seats, as two opposition parties won totally 40 commune chief seats and royalist Funcinpec party earned only one seat. Enditem
