Tokyo stocks dropped Tuesday morning as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar on the back of a poor performance on Wall Street overnight contributed to a risk-off mood and saw issues sold.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 111.22 points, or 0.67 percent, from Monday to 16,543.38.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, retreated 8.07 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,330.61.
Notable decliners by the morning break comprised nonferrous metals, marine transportation and mining-linked stocks. Enditem
