Burkina Faso police to investigate terrorist attack

Xinhua, May 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso police will investigate the recent terrorist attack against a police station on May 18 in the northern region, said Police Commissioner Lazare Tarpaga on Monday.

The police chief made the announcement at a joint press conference with Security Minister Simon Compaore in the capital Ouagadougou.

After the attack, "no one has claimed responsibility. But it does not prevent us from thinking that it is the deed of terrorists," said Tarpaga.

The attack is similar to the jihadist attack that killed 30 people in Ouagadougou on January 15 this year, he said.

On May 18, three unidentified gunmen stormed a police station at Koutougou near Burkina Faso's border with Niger and Mali.

In the attack, two police officers were injured, one of them in critical condition.

Over the past months, Burkina Faso has experienced a wave of attacks, mostly in the northern region of the country. Endit
