Benin gov't to hire more personnel in health sector

Xinhua, May 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Benin's government on Sunday said it will hire more qualified personnel in the health sector before 2019 in order to improve access to health services across the country.

"By Dec. 31, 2015, the total number of employees in the health sector stood at 14,587, spread in three categories: 582 medical personnel, 9,872 paramedical staff and 4,133 administrative staff," an official statement said, citing a report released in 2015 by the Health Ministry.

The report highlighted a "shortage of qualified personnel and the absence of mechanisms for keeping employees in remote regions."

It says only half of the Benin's population of around 10 million go to health centers and hospitals for treatment.

To overcome the deficit in human resources in the health sector, the health ministry will carry out an audit of employees in hospitals and health centers, according to the statement. Endit
