10 killed in landslide in northern India

At least 10 people have been killed and many injured in a storm in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand late on Sunday, said police on Monday.

The storm struck some parts of the hill state late on Sunday and triggered a landslide that entrapped some laborers staying in shanties in Chakrata area of Dehradun district, the state capital, according to police.

The victims were laborers working on a government road project as well as two children.

Relief operations have since begun and rescuers were looking for any other people trapped under the debris.

Government officials are also dispatching doctors and sending the injured to hospital. Endit
