The following are highlights of major South African media outlets on Saturday.

-- South African steel production fell 7.18 percent year on year in April to an estimated 539,000 tonnes, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

This followed a 16.3 percent rise in South African steel production to 7.6-million tonnes in 2015 compared with a 2.8 percent decline in global steel production to 1.6228-billion tonnes. In 2015 steel production decreased in all regions except Oceania, which registered a 4.6 percent gain.(Business Day).

-- Students' cries for help echoed across Fort Hare University on Friday, but were ignored by the large government delegation celebrating the institution's centenary.

Students, their parents, and workers protested outside the sport hall on the Alice campus throughout the day, hoping to get President Jacob Zuma's attention. (News24).

-- University of Fort Hare students stuck to their guns and disrupted the centenary celebrations at the university's main campus in the Eastern Cape town of Alice.

A large group of about 1,000 students blockaded the main gate, forcing police to usher dignitaries and guests through an alternative entrance at the back.(City Press). Endit
