Bangladesh announces nearly 2 mln taka bounty to nab six militants

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a cash reward of nearly 2 million taka (25,400 U.S. dollars)to anyone giving information leading to the arrest of six militants.

DMP announced half a million taka bounty on each of two organizers of Ansarullah Bangla Team while 200,000 taka on each of four members of the banned militant outfit for their alleged link with recent militant attacks in the country.

DMP Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sarder made the announcement at a press briefing on Thursday.

Muslim-majority Bangkadesh has seen a surge in violent attacks over the past few months in which free thinkers, bloggers and members of minority Muslim sects and other religious groups have also been targeted.

Two persons inclding a writer of a LGBT magazine were last month hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Bangladesh capital Dhaka, days after a English professor was shot dead. (1 U.S. dollar equals 79 taka) Endit
