- A five-day carnival to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan started in Pakistan's eastern Province of Punjab on Thursday.

Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, the proposed Mayor of the Punjab's provincial capital of Lahore, said a number of events will be arranged for the five-day celebrations of the Pakistan-China Friendship from May 19-23 across the province, especially in Lahore.

"Punjab province government will celebrate the completion of 65 years of unprecedented friendship between Pakistan and China in an enthusiastic and befitting manner," said Hassan.

Like the celebrations in the country's capital of Islamabad, a number of events, including seminars, pictorial exhibitions and painting competitions, will be held to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, which were formally established on May 21, 1951.

On Thursday, a three-day painting exhibition started at Tolington Art Gallery in Lahore, where winners would be awarded with a cash prizes and certificates.

The downtown areas of the city, especially the Canal Road and Mall Road were decorated with the theme of Pakistan-China Friendship. A 22-feet long and 11.5-feet wide joint floral flag of Pakistan and China was also exhibited in the city.

On the occasion, Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, said "Pakistan and China are bound together in lasting relations of friendship that has stood the test of time. China has supported Pakistan in the times of test and trial, and the Pakistani nation is thankful to Chinese leadership."

"China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the biggest gift for Pakistan from a friend, and it is a guarantee to progress and prosperity of Pakistan," Shahbaz said in a statement. Endit
