Liu Yunshan demands more efforts in development of philosophy, social sciences

Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Liu Yunshan has urged publicity and cultural officials to make more efforts in developing philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks on Thursday at a conference to discuss implementing President Xi Jinping's instruction on the matter.

Liu called for efforts to dig into scientific theories on Marxism, enhance cultural self-confidence, develop more "China views" and improve academic research in philosophy and the social sciences.

At a symposium on Tuesday, Xi stressed the irreplaceable role of philosophy and social sciences for building socialism with Chinese characteristics, urging Chinese characteristics to be incorporated in their development.

Xi's remarks echoed among philosophy scholars, social scientists and students, who vowed to make greater contributions to the realization of the Chinese Dream.

"I was greatly encouraged by Xi's instructions," said Zhu Shanlu, Party chief of Peking University, adding that Xi's words show the Party attaches great importance to social sciences and philosophy.

Chen Xianda, a professor with Renmin University of China, said Marxist historical materialism and dialectical materialism provide correct world views and methodology for correct decision-making processes in the governance of China. Endi
