New Passenger Terminal Building to be constructed at Singapore's Seletar Airport

Xinhua, May 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

A new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) is set to be constructed at the eastern side of Singapore's Seletar Airport, said Changi Airport Group (CAG) on Thursday.

A tender for the construction has been called on Wednesday and the construction is expected to begin in October this year, said CAG in the press release.

When the new building opens, operations at the current passenger terminal located on the western side of Seletar Airport will cease.

With improved facilities and amenities, the new PTB will enable Seletar Airport to accommodate growth of traffic, and will also support growing general aviation activities as it is part of the larger Seletar Aerospace Park.

As the demand for air travel and traffic at Changi Airport are increasing, there is a need to ensure the optimization of the use of resources within the entire aviation system in Singapore.

When the new PTB at Seletar Airport is ready in end-2018, turboprop aircraft operations will be shifted from Changi Airport to Seletar Airport. This move will help to free up capacity for jet aircraft operations at Changi Airport.

"Seletar Airport will continue to be a valuable complement to Changi Airport. The new Passenger Terminal Building will enhance the capacity of the airport. It will strengthen Singapore Aviation," said Kevin Shum, director-general of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

Seletar Airport, located in the northeastern region of Singapore, was built and completed just before the Second World War when it served as a military base. Nowadays, Seletar Airport is managed by CAG. Endit
