Xinhua, May 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 12 people were killed and several others injured in cyclonic storm in India's eastern state of Bihar, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said Thursday.

The cyclone hit northeastern and Kosi region of the state Wednesday night.

"Casualties have been reported from Purnea, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhubani, Munger and Lakhisarai districts," the broadcaster said.

According to AIR, several thatched houses were damaged and trees uprooted due to high speed of wind.

The winds have also damaged electricity transmission lines and crops in the affected districts. Endit
