Social dialogue resumes in Togo after two-year break

Xinhua, May 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Togo's National Council for Social Dialogue (CNDS) on Tuesday resumed its sittings after a two-year break due to some challenges, a source from the council has said.

The meeting which took place in the presence of representatives of government, trade unions and employers, aims to revive the activities of CNDS, whose objective is to improve the living and working conditions of workers and the general welfare of the Togolese population.

Participants will use the forum to harmonize all the views of stakeholders, in the run up to the 105th session of the International Labour Organization that is scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland.

Togo's Public Service and Labour Minister Gilbert Bawara said the country is currently enjoying a peaceful social environment and this should be consolidated. He appealed to all social dialogue actors to embrace mutual understanding for the benefit of workers.

The president of the employers' association Kossivi Naku and the secretary general of Togo's main workers' union, Ephrem Tsikplonou, promised to improve CNDS activities. Endit
