S. Korean meteorological agency apologizes for false earthquake news

Xinhua, May 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

The South Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) made an apology on Wednesday for a false earthquake report.

The Yonhap news agency quoted the KMA as reporting that a 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit Hoengseong in South Korea's eastern Gangwon province.

But it retracted the report only a minute later, saying the meteorological agency released the news during a disaster exercise.

The KMA said in a statement that the earthquake information was involved in a disaster drill but it mistakenly sent the quake news to the media. Endit
