Police gun down 4 militants in E. Pakistan

Xinhua, May 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least four militants were killed and three others fled the scene during a shoot out with police in Pakistan's east Lahore city on Wednesday, local Urdu media reported.

Dunya TV said the Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D.) of police launched a search operation acting on an intelligence tip-off, in the suburban Aimanabad area of Lahore, the capital city of the country's east Punjab province.

The C.I.D. said that the killed militants were planning to blow up government buildings in the city.

Police also recovered arms and ammunition including Kalashnikovs, rockets, hand grenades, pistols and explosive material during the encounter.

The C.I.D has speeded up the Intelligence Based Operations in the province on the directive of the country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, following a blast at a public park in March this year which killed over 80 people and injured hundreds others. Endit
