Ukraine joins Trans-Caspian Int'l Transport Route

Xinhua, May 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan announced on Tuesday that his country has officially joined the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which connects China with Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Omelyan said on Facebook the protocol to join the TITR was signed in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

He said the TITR member countries have reached an agreement to lower cargo tariffs on the route to increase competitiveness.

While previously the shipping cost of a 40-foot container from the Ukrainian-Polish to Kazakh-Chinese border via the TITR was 5,559 U.S. dollars, it has now been reduced to 3,980 dollars, Omelyan said.

He added that member countries continue to seek ways to further lower the tariffs.

The TITR corridor, part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, uses railway, maritime and road transport for transportation of goods. Endi
