3 killed in severe fire in German western port city

Xinhua, May 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three people were killed and at least 28 people injured in a severe fire that broke out in a residential building in Germany's western port of Duisburg on Tuesday.

Local police said the victims, including a 33-year-old mother and her two sons aged eight and 14, were a Romanian family. Smoke inhalation is reportedly the cause of death for all three people.

As emergency personnel arrived at the scene, flames billowed up the backside of the building and to the top floor. The exit had been cut off by the fire.

Firemen were able to bring more than 30 residents of the building to safety.

Investigations into the fire have begun. Enditem
