Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych has ended cooperation with his coach Daniel Vallverdu after 17 months, announced the world No.8 player on Monday in a press release.
He has no coach at present, one week before the grand slam Roland Garros.
Vallverdua previously cooperated with British Andy Murray. Berdych said his latest results are not what he expected. He said he is not a tennis player at the beginning of his career, so he had to act quickly when he felt the need for change.
The 33-year-old Berdych was not lucky in the tournament in 2016. Last week in the Italian Open tournament in Rome, he even suffered the worst defeat of his career in the third round match with Belgian David Goffin, he lost 6-0, 6-0 to Goffin without scoring one game.
Berdych said his decision is not a direct response to his crushing defeat in Rome. Now he is heading to Paris where he will prepare for matches in Roland Garros.
Berdych's cooperation with Vallverdu began well at the beginning of 2015 when he advanced to the semifinal in Australian Open. But he never beat any of the world's best players, Novak Djokovic, Murray or Roger Federer. This year, Berdych also started losing matches with other players whom he managed to defeat in 2015.
Vallverdu said it was a pleasure to work with Thomas and it was also a challenge to help him fulfill his professional goals. He said he wish Thomas all the best in another way forward even they would not continue to cooperate. Endit
