Eight people were killed and 44 others injured after a charter bus carrying more than 50 passengers crashed in the Webb County in the U.S. state of Texas on Saturday.

Seven people died at the scene and the eighth person died later at a hospital after the bus rolled over in Eagle Pass, about 200 km northwest of Laredo, the county seat of Webb County, according to local English daily the Houston Chronicle.

The bus, identified as belonging to OGA Charters, was en route from the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas to a casino in Eagle Pass when it rolled over.

The accident is roughly about 256 km south of San Antonio, a central Texas city. The injured passengers were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

It is believed one of the deadliest bus accidents in Texas in recent years.

The highway at the scene remained closed later Saturday afternoon.

Investigation was underway to determine the cause of the accident. Endi
