Mortar shell targets Syria's national TV HQ in Aleppo

Xinhua, May 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A mortar shell struck the headquarters of the Syrian national TV in the country's northern city of Aleppo on Saturday, injuring a reporter, state news agency SANA reported.

Shadi Hilweh, a well-known reporter with the national TV, was wounded, along with three others in the headquarters when the mortar slammed the building.

The report did not say how severe the injury of the TV crew was.

The attack is the latest in series of shelling that have targeted Aleppo, despite repetitive extended truces in this second largest city in Syria.

SANA said the rebels' shelling targeted several districts in the government-controlled part west of Aleppo on Saturday.

Aleppo has witnessed intense shelling over the past two weeks, with shaky truces backed by the United States and Russia bringing a brief lull to the troubled city.

However, the Syrian military accused the rebels of repeatedly breaching the brief truce which technically ended on Thursday, without any declared extension. Endit
