Hamilton books pole position in F1 Spanish Grand Prix

Xinhua, May 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's F1 Spanish Grand Prix from pole position after correcting an early error to outpace World Championship leader and Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg during Saturday's qualifying session.

Hamilton had slipped up in his first timed run, but returned to the track to claim his first pole since the second Grand Prix of the season, in Bahrain.

Rosberg, who has won every race this season and is on a seven race winning streak, made it a Mercedes 1-2 on the front row of the grid with Red Bull pair, Daniel Ricciardo and 18-year-old Red Bull debutant Max Verstappen third and fourth.

Meanwhile there was disappointment for Ferrari duo, Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, who could only manage fifth and sixth after a positive showing in Friday's practice sessions.

There was hope for Spanish fans as Carlos Saenz booked eighth place on the grid while Fernando Alonso will start from 10th. Endit
